Meet your new state rep

By now, some of you've read in the National Newsletter or my email a few days ago, I'm your new state rep.

Members felt it would be nice if we could have a way we could be in contact with each other, a Discussion Forum seemed like a good place to start.

We have a Calendar and a Member Locater.

What other categories would you like on the Forum ? Lemme know and I'll get 'em posted.

Members have shared ideas for Chapter activities including a State Rallye, participating with Automezzi, Belmar Festival Italiano, rides with start and destination points, visiting fellow members to see their collections, potlucks and periodic meetings to share what we do to keep our Guzzi's on the road.

Please share your ideas and what you'd like to get involved with.

I'm looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can at our North and South meetings.

Crazy to believe, I'm gonna be 60 in about a month. I bought my first Guzzi, a white V7 Classic, from Beemers and more, July 2009. April 2010, bought the 09 CalVin, which I have about 14k miles on. Laura and I rode out to Neah Bay, September 2009, had sold my V7C a couple months earlier after Guzzi saying they might bring the V7R to the states. Past February, I got lucky, finding a clean one owner 2000 lime/red V11 Sport w/ 3600 miles on it, i've got about 4200 miles on it now. This past July, I took delivery of the #21 V7R which is a lovely little machine ! I have to say, for myself, the V11 Sport is my favorite ! I've owned, ridden and restored a number of different bikes over the past 45 years. Currently I have 1969 CB750's, a 74 Commando and two little 60's Yamahas, a Twin Jet and a Rotary Jet. Alas, no Moto Guzzi before 2009.

My name, as you might figure out from my username, is Frank Snively.

I live in Buena Vista, Colorado, and as far as I know, I am the only Guzzi owner in Chaffee County. The nearest Moto Guzzi, at least to the south, is in Crestone. The owner down there has an older machine. We are also both owners of Norton motorcycles.

I have never, to my regret, owned a Moto Guzzi single. But my earlier twin, which I bought in 1967 (used) was one of the first V7's to be imported into this country. It had Del'Orto side float carburetors, which caused the engine to seize. I had to fix the right cylinder; to replace it, I had to buy another jug. And to prevent a recurrence, I kluged up a manifold, feeding both cylinders with a pair of the the Kiehen CV carburetors used on the Honda 450. Worked much better..

I bought my current machine, a California EV last year; my previous main ride, a BMW R1100GS was getting too tall for me to swing my leg over.

Oh yes, other details: I also ride a Ducati 907IE - an earlier machine with a steel tank. I am 74 years old, and retired from a career as an electronics systems engineer at (North American/Rockwell/Boeing) in Anaheim, California. Married, two children, one a martial arts instructor, the other a Paleontologist. I have a PhD from the California Institute of Technology; my Paleontologist son has a PhD from the University of Calgary. My wife and I collaborate on a monthly article for the local newspaper, featuring a local artist; the local arts community is active enough that we never run out of interesting people to interview.

Thanks for taking the Colorado lead. I hope we can rev up some activity in the coming year. The bike that brought me to Moto Guzzi was the V11 Sport...never bought one, but read a magazine review around 2000 that caught my attention. Test road one, test road a V11 Lemans a few years later. Bought a 08 1200 Sport in 2009. Really like the bike and the Guzzi brand.

Hello Steve. I have your '68 GTR 350 tucked safley away in storage. I bought a ratty '71 Ambassador last fall. It's mostly complete. What I need help with is figuring out the left foot shift linkage (foot pegs no florr boards). I have what I think are the necessary parts but danhed if I can figure out how they go together. A picture / diagram would be most helpful. Thx, Bruce
